Dad and I in Maui
So happy to have dad show us around the island. I also like it when he brings me to the places that Mom loved going to. Feeling blessed.
Huna or green turtle off our condo
Lots of green turtle sightings. Pat is good at spotting them. They go up and down the beach eating seaweed. Kind of neat that they are as big as we are. Many are 3-6 feet wide.
Whale museum
Lahaina used to be the whaling capital of the world. Museum has history of whaling business and facts like pay for captain was $380 after 4 years of service. Saw old harpoons and scrimshaw art. The museum has a whale skeleton in front. We shopped afterwards at beautiful, high end stores off the beach.
Royal Lahaina Luau
Luau was so fun. Dancers were incredible and we got VIP seating and souvenirs. Great food. Fun! Pat said he really enjoyed this, me too. One of the best things we've done.
Maui whale tour
We had an incredible time at the Pacific Foundation Whale tour in Maui. It's a two hour tour of the whales. Humpbacks breed in Maui and the breaching and whale tail slapping is the males showing off. We saw about 10 whales jump that day. The sheer awe of it is what I'll remember. Also being in a yellow raft n the ocean.

Guy from Canada spear fishing
This guy was pretty cool and would go out every evening to spear fish for supper and grill. Here he is with some fish he got.
3rd day in Maui
Today on Sunday we went to Lahaina to the cannery mall and had lunch with Dad at a sports bar. We also went to the whaling village and to the whale museum. Very upscale stores. Ryan bought some swimming trunks. Lahaina is the whaling capital of the world. Pat is getting a lo of driving time in. Here is our 3rd Maui sunset. Lots of surfers today. We swam in the ocean for a half hour, then went to the pool and watched the football game. We all played Euchre and had popcorn. Long day in the sun and swimming.
Shopping in Lahaina and banyan tree
Our second day, we went to Lahaina and walked the boardwalk of shops in the evening. So many tourists. The most amazing tree is a banyan tree. It was huge. We went back to the tree after shopping and it was twilight and hundreds of birds were in this tree making noise. Incredible.
Snorkeling
First full day in Maui and we took a long walk on the beach in the morning. Slept really well with sound of ocean and trade winds blowing in bedroom. Rooster woke us up at 5:10 am. Who knew a farm animal would wake us up in paradise. Then we went snorkeling. We saw several white fish. Pretty amazing. Pat did cut his foot on rock, but very fun!

Maui 2014
Patrick and I are finally going to Maui. Grandpa Jim has a month reserved at the Mau Kai. He has been going to Maui for over 20 years. He invited one of our kids to join us and this year Dad is paying for Ryan's plane ticket. So we are very happy to be going. Saved up all summer and off we go. Here we are on the plane ride. Left MSP airport at 7:30 am and got to Phoenix early at 9:30. Ate at the airport and boarded for Maui. Wow, what a long, long, day of flying. We were again in the air for 6.5 hours. But we were very excited to meet people on the plane and see finally see land. Landed at Maui at 3:20 Hawaii time. Dad met us and Patrick drove us all back to the Maui Kai. Gorgeous view of the ocean and the mountains on the right. The view from our condo is amazing. This is Patrick and I at our condo the first afternoon. I love this place. It's so beautiful.
